Job Description: Are you a sports enthusiast with a knack for writing? Do you enjoy covering local high school and community sports events? The Hutchinson Station and Litchfield Rail are looking for a passionate and dedicated Part-Time Sports Writer to join our team. This position is perfect for someone who wants to share the excitement of local sports with our readers. Overall, this person should possess a strong interest in local sports, athletes and the events with the ability to report on them in a clear, concise and captivating manner.

Part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on the local sports schedule.

Responsibilities Include:

• Report and write news stories about sporting events for 2 publications a week.
• Develop story / content ideas, considering reader and audience appeal.
• Arrange and conduct interviews to gather information on a particular story.
• Fact-check all details and verify any dates, facts and statistics used in the article.
• Investigate breaking news developments about sporting events.
• Ensuring all copy is grammatically correct and follows prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
• Develop and maintain a wide variety of contacts in the community.
• Work with other staff members to coordinate work efforts.
• Meet deadlines!

Required Knowledge:

• Demonstrated experience in print journalism, work samples required (or link to portfolio)
• Photography and video skills a plus
• Must have strong written, oral and presentation skills
• Strong grasp of Microsoft Office
• Reliable transportation, drivers license and insurance a must.
