Software Engineering Manager Highmark Health is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our AI Platforms and Services Engineering team. This role is entirely remote and involves managing teams specializing in software engineering, machine learning engineering, and infrastructure engineering. You will guide and develop these teams to deliver innovative AI solutions across the organization. Reporting to the Director of AI Platforms and Services, your leadership will be critical in driving the technical design and execution of product offerings. This role also includes overseeing teams dedicated to delivering Gen AI applications and scaling AI Agents for widespread deployment. The ideal candidate brings a strong working knowledge of Python, along with general familiarity with cloud technologies and platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform. They should also have hands-on experience leading platform engineering and/or full-stack software engineering teams, accompanied by at least a general familiarity with AI as a service. As the engineering leader on this team, you will be instrumental in driving our business strategy through AI, accelerating time-to-market, and minimizing risk across the enterprise. Essential Responsibilities Perform management responsibilities to include, but not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Direct and control the day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority. Understand budget and resource utilization across the product teams. Escalate any issues regarding product delivery budgets and review action plans with product owners. Provide oversight of all aspects of the application product life cycle to ensure operational excellence and continuous improvement of processes. Contribute thought leadership and industry expertise to strategic planning and execution for current and future products. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization by preparing presentations and/or reports. Act as a coach and mentor to all members of the organization. Define and create the roadmap and supports the team in the delivery. Take ownership of any critical impediments that the scrum teams are not able to resolve. Other duties as assigned or requested. Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field OR 6 years progressive and related software engineering experience in lieu of Bachelor degree Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field Experience Required: 10 years of working with information technology; 5 years in developing, presenting and communicating technical concepts to varying audiences, to include 3 years' experience in developing long term roadmaps; 3 years in developing tactical solutions to diverse and complex business problems, including working with a variety of technology systems designing solutions or developing applications in healthcare; 3 years of management experience Preferred: Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams, including machine learning engineering and infrastructure engineering, in an Agile or Lean development environment. Experience in platform engineering and full-stack software development, with a focus on building scalable and reliable AI services and applications. Strong working knowledge of cloud technologies and platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP), with experience in designing and deploying AI solutions in a cloud-native environment. Demonstrated ability to translate product roadmaps and business requirements into detailed technical specifications and engineering tasks. Experience with MLOps principles and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, model deployment, monitoring, and governance. Familiarity with AI as a Service (AIaaS) offerings and experience in building or integrating with AI service platforms. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality AI solutions. Experience in managing vendor relationships and overseeing outsourced software development projects. Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices, including testing, security, and documentation. Experience in implementing and promoting software development and operational excellence through Agile and Lean practices. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of talented engineers. Pay Range Minimum: $108,000.00 Pay Range Maximum: $201,800.00 Base pay is determined by a variety of factors including a candidate's qualifications, experience, and expected contributions, as well as internal peer equity, market, and business considerations.
