Located in Westbury, NY | $40 Million Annual Revenue | Retail & Wholesale Position: Manager of Nursery Department Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Manager, Retail Nursery to join our team. Objective: Manage the operations of the retail store areas related to outdoor green goods, and related seasonal products, and to ensure customer satisfaction and profitable sales growth. Key Responsibilities: Build, lead, and develop a team of quality people. o Orient and train new staff members. Conduct performance, compensation, and other relevant evaluations. Develop and monitor financial plans and outcomes related to all departmental needs. o Develop and monitor labor and supplies budgets. o Analyze, review, and report on financial results against plans. Act as the Manager on Duty as directed by the Retail General Manager, following established processes and procedures o Open and close the store o Ensure staff is working with daily objectives outlined by their direct manager o Ensure store standards are met, and processes are being followed as developed by the Retail General Manager Oversee the merchandising and sales of retail green goods including trees, shrubs, perennials, and Christmas greens, as well as related seasonal products. o Develop the sales skills of the sales staff. o Ensure that systems and processes related to merchandising and sales are followed. Oversee the planning, merchandising, and maintenance of all Nursery areas. o Work with the Visual Merchandising team to ensure that seasonal store setups and transitions are planned and executed efficiently and smoothly. o Develop and monitor replenishment systems. Oversee plant maintenance. o Develop and document plant maintenance systems. o Follow up on maintenance issues and make necessary adjustments. Be the primary liaison with the buying team on Nursery categories. o Provide input in merchandise planning. o Communicate with the buying team regarding sales, displays, sign needs, and merchandise levels. Participate in sales and product knowledge training. o Provide/conduct training sessions as required. o Attend offsite seminars and training opportunities as required. 5 years of experience managing sales and related operational functions and processes at a retail establishment

5 years of experience managing people in a retail environment

Associates degree or equivalent

Computer literate, including Microsoft Office products

Ability to learn computer systems that are new to you

Attention to detail

Able to juggle multiple tasks

Ability to communicate effectively in English – reading, orally, and in writing

Ability to operate a forklift, skid steer, and other equipment safely and effectively (will be certified on Hicks equipment)

Preferences: Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Ornamental horticultural knowledge

5 years' experience in the garden center industry
