Manages laboratory operations and is responsible for all employment related activities, budgets, fiscal performance and quality assurance. May also function as Technologist to cover departmental staffing requirements.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to staff to ensure quality patient care by utilizing the performance improvement model to correct quality issues. Ensures that compliance standards are met.
- Oversees the development/revision of procedure manuals and reviews and signs all written procedures yearly.
- Performs all steps necessary relative to hiring, evaluating, coaching, promoting, disciplining & discharging employees by following established HR policies.
- Prepares and maintains budgets. Maintains a fiscal awareness and continually strives to operate in a cost-efficient manner.
- Proactively investigates modern technologies as they become available. Pursues technologies that will enhance staff productivity while ensuring quality and cost efficiency.
- May also oversee the laboratory outreach program and/or function as Technologist as necessary.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years in a clinical laboratory role
- For the respective Anatomical Pathology domains below:
- Cytology: Cytotechnologist (CT) ASCP certification
- Cytogenetics: Cytogenetics (CG) ASCP certification
- Histology: Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT) ASCP certification
- Surgical Pathology/Gross Room: Pathologists' Assistant (PA) ASCP certification
- For Clinical Pathology domains:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification
- Cytogenetics: Cytogenetics (CG) ASCP certification
- For Histocompatibility Domain:
- BS in Medical Technology or Life Sciences
Preferred:
- 1 year supervisory experience
- Master's Degree
- Valid Driver's License
