SENIOR PRODUCT DESIGNER The Senior Product Designer is a key driver of creative excellence and product innovation, responsible for designing trend-right, market-ready products for some of the nation’s largest retailers. This role requires a strategic blend of creative vision, technical design skills, and cross-functional collaboration. The Senior Designer will lead design initiatives from concept to presentation & sampling, ensuring that all designs meet high standards of quality, safety, and brand alignment. This role also serves as a mentor to junior designers, fostering their growth and maintaining a strong, creative team environment. Our design team works with physical hardline products doing surface and product design work for items sold at big box retailers.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Conduct ongoing market analysis, lifestyle research, and trend forecasting to maintain a competitive edge in design innovation and anticipate market demands.
Develop and maintain comprehensive style guides that set clear design standards across product categories, ensuring brand consistency.
Lead ideation sessions, bringing fresh, innovative concepts to life across print, pattern, graphic, and product designs.
Deliver compelling product designs, balancing aesthetics with practicality and cost efficiency.
Develop presentations and pitch decks for clients and new business initiatives.
Tailor designs to meet client specifications, including customer preferences in color, style, and brand identity.
Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, maintaining a fast-paced workflow while ensuring quality and accuracy.
Proactively communicate project timelines, milestones, and updates to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment.
Lead client-facing design presentations, effectively articulating design concepts, style guide principles, and packaging solutions.
Establish and maintain clear process flows for design development, from initial concept through production.
Partner with Product Development, Design, and overseas teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
Collaborate with internal creative and account teams to align designs with client expectations and brand guidelines.
Provide clear, accurate design specifications ensuring quality outcomes and successful translation of product from concept to final product.
Synthesize trend insights into actionable design concepts and style guide updates.
Adopt Design Lab trend direction to apply to original artwork and product designs.
Mentor and guide junior designers, providing constructive feedback and supporting skill development.
Model effective design practices and maintain a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.
REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of professional experience designing consumer products for mass retail.
Bachelor’s degree in design, art, fashion, or related field preferred.
Provide portfolio of current relevant work.
Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Procreate and Adobe Fresco. 3D design experience a plus.
Key understanding of materials, finishes, and product substrate.
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to present design concepts and collaborate effectively across teams.
Demonstrated history of modeling objectivity when receiving client & design feedback; strong ability to act upon constructive criticism efficiently and effectively.
Experience in mass Dollar chain retailers and/or commodity price points is a bonus.
Experience with a PLM system is highly advantageous.
Available to work in a hybrid set up - 2 days/week onsite at our Roseville, MN office.
