​​​Employees in this role are responsible for managing guest interactions, monitoring public access and escalators, performing event-related fire watch and vehicle fuel level checks, providing directional and other informational services, and supporting overall facility operations, including ensuring the safety and comfort of attendees.​
This is a Union position with the Teamsters.
Shifts: 2nd Shift: 1:00pm – 10:30pm
3rd Shift: 5:00pm – 2:00am This role is event driven; hours will vary based on the specific event needs.
Compensation:
$22.36 per hour (paid on a bi-weekly basis) What You Will Do: Interacts and directs guests, clients, and its employees to the appropriate locations within SDCC in a professional manner making face to face contact verbally greeting and engaging pleasantly by asking questions and providing appropriate assistance.
Attends daily shift briefings to obtain current and future information related to assigned duties or tasks relevant to events and activities within the SDCC.
Reports or eliminates safety hazards by proactively responding to the hazard itself or alerting the appropriate parties.
Relieves other Guest Services throughout the building for required breaks performing their duties.
Performs ticket taking tasks by efficiently following ticketing instructions.
Performs fire watch duties by monitoring the assigned areas for potential fire hazards and reporting the status every hour.
Checks fuel and battery/cable checks of vehicles entering the SDCC facility and recording the required information for each vehicle.
Prepares written statements on incidents.
Proactively screens and addresses persons not attending events or not doing business within the SDCC and notifies Public Safety as needed.
Completes building opening and closing duties.
Monitors escalators and elevators.
Acts as a crowd manager during emergencies by using hand gestures, vocal interaction, and assertiveness in line with the SDCC safety and security protocol procedures.
Performs evacuation procedures or any related tasks as directed by SDCC Management during emergencies.
Assists other SDCC staff or persons as needed during emergencies in locating and transporting AED, First Aid supplies, and bleeding control kits and/or fire extinguishers.
Works assigned Guest Services positions as needed throughout the course of the workday. What You Will Need: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in large public assembly facilities is highly desirable. Courses in criminal justice or security training by a recognized academy, school, or organization desirable.
First Aid / CPR training preferred.
Customer/guest services skills. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to diplomatically and tactfully resolve difficult and sensitive situations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Availability to work first, second, or third shifts including weekends and holidays.
Ability to arrive at work on time to provide prompt assistance to attendees and guests.
Working knowledge of computers.
Ability to work independently with little direction.
