Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $18.00 to $19.00 and may be commensurate with experience.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a Food Service Worker (Cook) to join the team, most recently recognized for serving 900 meals every day! The Cook is one of the most important positions at SOME, Inc. because serving meals is at the heart of our organization.
Position Description: The Cook is responsible for preparing daily meals for breakfast, lunch, and meals designated for delivery to various programs. The role also involves maintaining smooth kitchen operations and managing food inventory to ensure that all meals are prepared efficiently and to high standards.
Required: HS Diploma or GED; 1-3 yrs. food service or restaurant experience.
Preferred: Culinary Arts Degree; 3 + yrs. institutional food service or restaurant experience; Driver's License
Required License/Certifications: Food Handler's License by the District of Columbia Department of Health
Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm (40 hours per week) *essential employee*

Expected Contributions: Kitchen Operations Management
* Develop a daily menu and plan breakfast and lunch with selections that are balanced and nutritious.
* Plan and prepare quality daily meals for breakfast and lunch
* Ensure meals are ready each day for delivery to programs
* Plan and organize meals for the Central Kitchen to provide meals that meet nutrition requirements for children and the aging.
* Track and plan food budget
* Adjust menus based on donations
* Clean and maintain the kitchen
* Receive donations and repurpose them for meals
* Organize and maintain food inventory
* Label meals for serving and delivery
Organization:
* Clean and maintain the kitchen.

* File invoices from deliveries.
* Record daily logs for food, refrigeration, temperature of foods, etc.
Reports to: Kitchen Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit or stand for long periods
