Location: Near Kansas City (Topeka Public Schools) Position Type: Full-Time, School Year Contract Number of Openings: 2 Weekly Hours: 35 Start & End Date: Follows student contact days; includes parent-teacher conference hours Daily Schedule: High School: 7:30 AM 3:00 PM Elementary: 8:00 AM 3:30 PM Position Overview: Topeka Public Schools is seeking two qualified Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to support Deaf/Hard of Hearing students across various school sites within the district. The position involves educational interpreting and supporting language acquisition in American Sign Language (ASL). Youll work closely with a team of interpreters to coordinate schedules and ensure student coverage. Caseloads will rotate between students, with a half-day assignment change. One of the roles includes working directly with a single high school student in a "freelance-style" interpreting model. Key Responsibilities: Provide interpretation services in classroom and school settings Support students' ASL development and overall language acquisition Collaborate with educational teams to support student learning Rotate between assignments to accommodate changing student needs Adhere to professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines Caseload & Grade Levels: PreK12, caseloads may vary throughout the day Direct service for one high school student in one position Caseloads typically include up to two students per day Required Qualifications: Minimum 4.0 EIPA score (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) Experience in educational settings preferred Strong proficiency in ASL and English Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 35-55$ an hour depending on experience and qualifications.
