This position will cover both locations.Prepare and microscopically examine slides looking for abnormalities such as cancerous cells, pre-cancerous cells, or infectious disease cells.Ask your recruiter/hiring manager about the following incentives that may be available for this position: •Sign-on bonus - $15,000 (4 equal payments of $3,750 @ 3M; 1/2/3 years•Tuition reimbursement - $10,000•Shift differentials & other financial incentives •Tuition assistance •Academic sponsorship with Methodist College •Free parkingResponsibilities:Essential FunctionsPerform duties of a Cytotechnologist.Achieving set benchmarks and standards-Discrepancy rate falls within 2SD of lab mean.Meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements as determined by the section pathologist regarding number of slides screened.Accurately perform, evaluate appropriateness and report tests/analyses requested on patient specimens.Is responsive to special needs and request of patients/customers.Accurately perform and evaluate staining quality of patient slides.Quality control is completed and documented 100% of the time.Compliant per personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines 100% of the time.Routine maintenance is completed and documented 100% of the time.Screened slides are available for easy retrieval by direct observation.Human Papillomavirus (HPV) ordering and send out is completed in a timely fashion.Identify problems and initiate immediate follow-up as necessary with the Section Leader, or Medical Director(s) to ensure accurate, timely laboratory services by using critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.Accommodates patient and laboratory needs by professionally responding to requests for flexibility in duties, schedules, and staffing.Utilizes time efficiently to complete assignments and assist coworkers.Uses organization and prioritization skills in achieving workload demandsDevelop, implement, and document orientation, training, and education to ensure: employee/student competence, provide excellent services and meet accreditation requirements by effective verbal or written communication.Assists in training new and existing staff including the review and completion of orientation checklists and skill/training checklists.All training documentation is completed 100% of the time.Organizational and departmental competencies are completed 100% of the time.Communicates process/procedural changes in a timely manner and educates staff on the need for the change.Evidence that new procedures and procedure revisions are read and understood.Assist with training and monitoring UNMC cytology students.Assist in preparation for and participate in inspections, proficiency testing, and properly maintain records to fulfill the requirements of the accrediting agencies (i.e., College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) by following the provided protocol.College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection will meet the standards as delineated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations by review of inspection results.Assist with correcting all College of American Pathologist (CAP) deficiencies with the deadline by review of inspection results.Proficiency testing is completed as assigned and submitted by the deadline.Assists in completion of College of American Pathologist (CAP) checklist responses in preparation for on-site or self-inspection as assigned.Assists section leader with problem resolution and follow up reports for proficiency tests as requested.Assists in review/revision of procedure manuals as assigned.Assists with the completion of quality control and Quality Assurance activities.Maintain and encourage open communication internally and externally to coordinate activities and provide quality laboratory services utilizing appropriate techniques.
