Description
**This recruitment will establish a 6 month eligibility list for current and future openings. The current vacancy is 32hrs/week, 10 months per year.**
Under direction, provide occupational therapy services to special education students in accordance with Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals; assist in the case management of services to students; maintain records and documentation on students.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
An employee in this class participates and collaborates as a member of an educational team administering occupational therapy to identified students with specialized needs. The employee works primarily with a professional Occupational Therapist and other staff as appropriate in developing and providing services and activities suitable for individual student capabilities toward improvement of the student's academic achievement.
Examples of Duties
Provide occupational therapy services according to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and intervention plans developed for individual students. E
Gather data in areas such as oral motor skills, sensory integration, motor planning, developmental function, self care, fine motor function, work behavior, endurance and postural tone. E
Monitor student progress and prepares detailed records and reports concerning student progress. E
Assist with the development of therapy services such as adapting school and classroom environment and leaning materials to improve student functioning; facilitate access to instructional activities; monitors the use of adaptive equipment. E
Attend IEP meetings for assigned students; reports findings and provides recommendations as approved by an Occupational Therapist; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. E
Provide assistance to educational staff through consultation and training. E
Explain and clarify occupational therapy goals and services to District staff, family members and personnel in other agencies as appropriate. E
Observe and interact with students according to approved procedures; utilize positive restraint techniques according to established procedures as necessary. E
Individually or with the assistance of other staff members, lift and position students in and out of wheelchairs, braces and/or other orthopedic equipment. E
Attend and participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and in-service trainings to maintain current knowledge of developments in the field of Occupational Therapy. E
Provide consultative services to parents, students, teachers and program staff. E
Respond to inquiries and concerns which arise from parents, students, teachers and staff in a timely fashion. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to: Associate of Arts degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program and six months experience providing occupational therapy services to individuals in a structured environment.
A valid certification issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is required.
A valid license issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy is required.
A valid Class C, California Driver's License, a driving record that meets district insurability requirements and use of a personal vehicle is required.
Valid certifications provided by American Heart Association or American Red Cross for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment.

In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
