Assistant General Manager
Position Summary:
As part of an award winning team in the logistics industry, you will provide complete management oversight for assigned terminals of responsibility such as monitoring staffing, directing work flow process creation & execution, safety meetings, responsibility for P&L. interfacing with customers (internal & external) and addressing issues that may arise.
Basic purpose of position:
Provide leadership and management oversight for multiple locations to ensure safety, quality, reputation, and compliance of our associates and that Company expectations are met in each area of responsibility.
Expectation:
We expect Assistant General Manager to be committed to a high standard of safety, to comply with all safety policies/procedures and willing to report safety violations and potential safety issues to the appropriate personnel. We expect all Assistant General Managers to employ an "out front" approach to management. The Assistant General Manager should spend the majority of their time working to ensure their areas of responsibility as well as subordinates perform at the required level to meet; Safety, Financial and Company expectations. Their focus must be on ensuring their subordinates and sites are meeting the customer's expectations, and that our associates are performing their work safely and correctly. The Assistant General Manager must be an effective communicator, leader, and mentor.
Responsibilities:
Ensure mechanical programs meet state/federal regulations, manufacturer recommendations, along with Company guidelines and requirements;
Improve upon existing training programs and certification requirements;
Ensure all training and quality of repairs meets or exceeds AAR and FRA compliance regulations;
Ensure areas of responsibility meet AAR billing and repair estimating criteria;
Create, improve and maintain processes to manage parts, materials and equipment asset inventory;
Create and implement appropriate mechanical KPI's and audits used across multiple locations to ensure compliance with all safety and quality requirements, and procedures to include; Company, Customer and other entities;
Embody the Ethical practices and Core Principles of the Company;
Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance within the scope of duties; included but not limited to hire, fire, promotions or other changes in employee status;
Perform work directly related to the management or general business operations of the Company or its customers;
Formulate and administer Company policies, directing and coordinating all site activities to develop and implement long-range goals and objectives to meet business and profitability growth objectives;
Establishing, communicating and monitoring P&L budgets for each area of responsibility that meets or exceeds the Company's expectations as outlined by Senior Management;
Monitoring areas of responsibility to ensure all incidents of customer or company equipment damage are investigated, incident reports are properly documented and appropriate reporting to company headquarters, corrective actions implemented to prevent recurrence, damage accruals, and documentation for disputed damages for all locations under responsibility;
Prepare and conduct customer reviews to ensure expectations are consistently being met and if not to prepare an appropriate plan of action to correct;
Managing administration of the annual employee review and incentive programs for locations of responsibility;
Setting aggressive safety goals for locations of responsibility that complement the overall safety goals;
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED, Bachelor's Degree preferred. (Or sufficient amount of work related experience as determined by the President).
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of manager level experience managing multiple site locations including full P&L responsibility.
Prior experience that demonstrates accomplishments that enhanced efficiency, accuracy, reliability, timeliness and regarded among peers as a Railroad mechanical/maintenance subject matter expert.
Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:
Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment;
Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy.
Physical, Mental & Sensory Requirements:
Ability to travel by all forms of commercial conveyance with some overnight travel up to 50% of total workdays;
Ability to frequently work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions;
Ability to occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Ability to occasionally stand and walk for periods of time greater than 2 hours;
Must be able to hear and communicate work or safety instructions spoken in a normal voice;
Must have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or other equipment;
Ability to communicate using various types of equipment as well as view and change data on a standard computer for periods of time greater than 4 hours daily;
Must be able to work independently and to simultaneously handle multiple tasks;
Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
