Temporary Nurse Practitioner

Assignment Dates: September 2, 2025 through December or March.

Wage: $85-$105 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Saturdays, 40 hours per week working 4-10 hour shifts

Requires: Current AK License

Seward Community Health Center (SCHC) is seeking a locum Nurse Practitioner (NP) to help staff our Clinic in beautiful Seward, Alaska. 

No two days will be the same if you take this opportunity of a lifetime. You’ll spend 40 hours a week working in our Clinic and serving both primary and acute care needs from some of the 250,000+ visitors and 2500 residents of Seward. Whether it’s helping patients manage chronic conditions or allergies, or removing the odd fish hook, no two days will be the same.

In your free time (no on-call hours here!) explore all Seward and Alaska has to offer. Camping, kayaking, pickle ball, boating, fishing, hiking, biking and 4-wheeling are just a few of the adventures to be had. Hiking trails are everywhere and we’re located next to Exit Glacier and Kenai National Fjords Park.

Additional benefits:

  • $1000 per month stipend towards for travel costs including airfare, car, lodging, etc. Employees are also eligible to utilize a room in SCHC's shared housing and/or company vehicle, dependent on availability. Please note that SCHC housing and vehicles are for business use only and are shared between all traveling providers.
  • $2500 bonus for full completion of the assignment
  • Housing provided in our shared staff housing rental with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. Wifi provided, and each bedroom has a TV, as does the shared common space. Located only a few miles from the clinic and downtown, no pets permitted.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries and conditions
  • Help patients manage the symptoms of chronic health issues, and provide education and referrals as needed
  • Provide urgent/walk-in care during some same day appointments
  • Carry out basic primary medical care procedures (e.g., casting and suturing) 
  • Assist in the development of a treatment plan and appropriate follow-up plan
  • Educate patients about the diagnosis, treatment plan, and preventive practices
  • Participate in community outreach and education efforts as requested 
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to other members of the care team as needed
  • Obtain informed consent for all procedures 
  • Exercise prescriptive authority as outlined in Alaska statutes 
  • Document patient visit appropriately in electronic health record (EHR) - Epic Ambulatory
  • Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA requirements 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent level of care
  • Professional license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or equivalent level of care, and current Alaska license at time of interview

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strongly Preferred:  Active enrollment with Commercial Payers, Medicaid & Medicare
  • Must be in good standing with national and/or state professional organizations with current continuing education requirements and professional licensure.  
  • Two years minimum working experience in a primary care or urgent care setting with rural, community health center and/or underserved clinical environment preferred.  
  • Current DEA license required (or in application process at time of hire). 
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS, PALS and ATLS certification preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in prioritizing work demands and managing time in a busy practice environment 
  • Ability follow SCHC policies, procedures and directives from the Medical Director
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively using verbal, written and electronic formats
